We use a wide variety of processes in creating EyeCandy. Some of the main processes are :
  1. A visit from an unamused Muse (or original inspiration)
  2. Mold Creation - Molds are made from glass, silicone, metal or ??
  3. Casting the Piece - Often the pieces are cast under vacuum.  Casting is an art in itself.
  4. Shaping, Sanding & Polishing - We use buffing and polishing machines of our own design, and well as some other purchased machinery.
  5. Carving - Some of the internal carvings are created with rotary tools, but the finest detail work is done by hand with miniature engraving tools.
  6. Air-brushing, Sand blasting, Gouging, and ? - There are dozens to hundreds of different creative techniques that have been developed over the years.
  7. Final Polishing, - To put the final polish on our work, we use buffing wheels that ... you guessed it ... we make ourselves out of bolts of hand selected cloth.   Really.
  8. Imaging and Presentation - Imagine if you will, how difficult it would be to capture a good image of a transparent object that distorts in infinite variety the tiny detail of the carvings.   We're just learning how to do this.

We are dedicated (or maybe committed) and if we need a machine that's too expensive or doesn't exist, we build it.  Our workshops are a veritable shrine to Rube Goldberg.  We want our creations to be enjoyed and we strive to control our costs and work efficiently so that our art is affordable.

Here we see an egg mounted in the wet-sanding drill press rig.

This photo shows the sanding in progress.

Here we see the egg being buffed.

No matter how we try to avoid it, there is always some hand sanding involved :-(

This website, the original music, the imaging of the pieces, and all of the operations of EyeCandy ArtWorks are the result of the direct efforts of Billy James and Lisa Miller, with contributions from David Morrissey.
